An E-Handbook for New Faculty

Stress Management
You might discover that as a new instructor you don't have enough time to get everything done, things feel rather overwhelming, you feel time pressure to accomplish other institutional requests, and you even get lost in the building! How can you eliminate or alleviate some of these stressors?
  • Ask a colleague for help
  • Perhaps you can work some days off-campus and avoid the challenges of driving in traffic
  • Prioritize what you need to do
  • Ask yourself if you are focusing on the 'urgent' and not the 'important'
  • Maintaining your sense of humor
  • Take time to just 'be'

There are many stress management tips available for both yourself and your students.

Here are some ways to recognize stress in yourself and others.
